Sayantan Sarkar showcased his quirky and futuristic collection of summer resort wear, 'STATUS DUO,' at the Talent Box during Lakme Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2013. His trademark "Simplified Sophistication" style catapulted onto the fashion and celebrity scene recently when leading Bengali actor, Paoli Dam, attended the 64th Cannes Film Festival in a Sayantan Sarkar red and white dhakai saree. I catch up with him back stage for a round of snap questions.
Please tell us more about your collection “Status Duo”?
This collection is basically a men’s wear collection,
primarily a metro-sexual man and it upholds the femininity part of a man. If you
look at people around today, it’s more of a free country, with liberated people,
I am especially inspired by the fashion fraternity. So it’s not like men have to be rugged and non-dressed. Men
are sassy, men are dressed up. My collection is for people who don’t
believe in gender blenders.
What is the difference between style and fashion for you?
Style is something which is very individual and fashion is basically
more of a cycle which is going on. Fashion is something which is there for only
a period. I might style myself separately and that might not be the fashion of
the time.
Quirk is in big time. As u can witness it in this fashion
week, quirk is majorly in and I have upheld that in my collection as well. Also a major trend for the summer is flow, definitely
more of flow and comfort, everything else will be taking a backseat.
